Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has revealed that he was attacked by goons on his way home from the Busia law courts.
Speaking to the press on Friday, March 22, the lawyer stated that a group of men began pelting his car adding that he was forced to tell his driver to speed off to avoid any serious injuries.
Further, he divulged that it was not a random attack explaining that he suspected that the goons were under the instructions of a powerful politician in the county.
According to Omtatah, he had on many occasions requested Busia Governor Paul Otuoma to issue him with documents to aid in his investigations into a case of missing Ksh2.3 billion.
However, the governor had been unresponsive and hostile towards him.
“I only went to court to say that I had written him 12 letters requesting for the documents, but he refused to issue them. About Ksh2.3 billion that belonged to the county, is missing and I am trying to find out what happened.
“On my way back home, a group of boys began pelting my car and I do not think it was a random attack. I believe that the goons were sent. Now, I can see that diplomacy will not work. I want the governor to know that I will not relent,” he said.

ADVERT
“I do not engage in the politics of abuse or violence. All I am asking for is that I am given the papers that I need to continue with my investigations. What is happening is contrary to the law and I will not let it continue.
“I am not moved or scared because worse things have happened to me. I think the governor is hiding something in the documents, but I will push this to the end,” he said.
Additionally, Omtatah stated that his vehicle was damaged during the incident. However, he was safe and did not sustain any injuries.
“One of the windows of my vehicles was smashed and part of the vehicle slightly damaged. My vehicle is a Probox which has a strong body, so it was able to withstand the attack.
“My driver and I diverted to a nearby institution, and we are waiting for the police to assess the damages,” added Omtatah.
