A letter addressed to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) requesting vetting of nominees for cabinet slots made rounds on Saturday to spark a debate among Kenyans.
The National Assembly has, however, dismissed the letter which had the signature of the National Assembly Clerk requesting the Commission to vet a list of nominees being considered for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries.
In a statement on Saturday, the Assembly flagged the post doing rounds on social media as fake.
In a formal statement, the House advised the public and media to treat the list with contempt and disdain, noting that it was fake since no official communication regarding any new cabinet nomination has reached the National Assembly.
National Assembly dismisses list of alleged CS nominees circulating on social media
“This list has not come through any official channels within the National Assembly, and we urge the public to disregard it, as no formal communication or announcement has been issued by the Office of the President,” the statement stated.
The Speakers’ Office, which is responsible for managing communications between Parliament and the Executive, reiterated the need to rely on official sources for government appointments.
The House Leadership has emphasized that should there be any such communication, it will follow the normal channels to reach members of the public and media.
The post circulating on social media had alleged that some prominent individuals were being considered for appointment for CS position.

Earlier, the fake letter had circulated widely on social media for the better part of the day, attracting mixed reactions from social media users.

Morara’s aide Pareno Solonka said the letter was fake and Morara had not taken any cabinet role.
He further urged the public not to be gullible and buy into propaganda from people who are trying to kill the revolution.
His sentiments were also echoed by Rose Kemboi who said “some misinformers are overworking. Sad part is readers falling for it.”
