The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed that an aircraft registered as 5Y-CCA crashed early Tuesday morning while en route from Diani to Kichwa Tembo.
In a statement released on October 28, 2025, KCAA said the aircraft went down at 0530Z with 12 people on board.
Government agencies have been dispatched to the crash site in Kwale County to determine the cause of the accident and assess its impact.
“Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) wishes to confirm that an aircraft registration number 5Y-CCA, on its way from Diani to Kichwa Tembo crashed at 0530Z. The aircraft had 12 persons on board. Government agencies are already on site to establish the cause of the accident and its impact,” read part of the statement.
According to reports, none of the 12 people on board have been rescued. The plane crashed at around 8 am, after it departed from Diani.
Rescue operations have been hindered by heavy rain in the area. In photos seen by The Kenya Times, the plane appears dismantled and engulfed in flames.
The plane was carrying tourists headed to the Maasai Mara and was expected to arrive at around 9 a.m.
Earlier this year, in June 2025, Tragedy struck in Kwale County when a Kenya Air Force aircraft crashed in the Ndavaya area in Kwale County.
Two Kenya Air Force officers were aboard the military aircraft when the incident happened, County Commissioner Stephen Orinde has confirmed.
In addition, KDF confirmed that the aircraft experienced an emergency while on a training flight in the vicinity of Mwakijembe Primary School in Kwale County.
Emergency response teams, including KAF crash investigators, were dispatched to the crash site to support search and recovery efforts.
The cause of the incident remained unclear, however, the authorities launched investigations to determine what led to the tragedy.
