President William Ruto has explained why he appointed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies into his government, two years after being sworn in.
Speaking on December 22, Ruto said he opted for the broad-based government to promote unity.
He stated that the year began with only the Kenyan government, but certain developments led to the emergence of a new face of government.
“We started as the Kenya Kwanza government, but along the way, both good and bad developments emerged. This led to the formation of a broad-based government,” Ruto said.
He explained that he has to expand the Kenya Kwanza government to accommodate other players to help achieve his manifesto.
“The government has expanded, and many people have joined us to help drive progress. Recently, you saw me expand it even further by bringing in more people to foster unity and understanding. Our goal is transformation, not political competition.”
Ruto stated that they are focused on strategies to create employment for the youth, empower farmers, improve the quality of life, and boost exports.
“So that we can have a stable country that knows the direction it is heading,” he added.
Ruto Brags of Kenya’s Transformation
Additionally, Ruto stated that many people didn’t believe in his administration, but they are now beginning to witness the face of transformation in Kenya.
He emphasized that the government would roll out the Affordable Housing Programme, implement Universal Health Care, and promote equality.
“I am determined to change this nation, and nothing is going to stop us from transforming Kenya because this is what we have always wanted to do,” Ruto said.

Taifa Care/SHA
He urged Kenyans to register for the Taifa Care Social Health Assurance (SHA).
The President explained that the SHA seeks to promote equality in healthcare by requiring higher earners to contribute more and lower earners to contribute less.
“We are one country, and we strive for equality of opportunity. That is why we aim to ensure Taifa Care reaches everyone,” he said.

Livestock Vaccination
Further, Ruto criticized leaders who oppose the planned nationwide livestock vaccination programme scheduled for January 2025.
He stated that the vaccination will prevent diseases and is being manufactured locally.
Ruto urged politicians to focus on other issues and stop politicizing the vaccination.
“Let us be decent leaders. Let us learn not to politicize matters that are important to the people of Kenya,” he said.
