Ruto Reshuffles Cabinet, Murkomen Appointed Interior CS

President William Ruto on Thursday, December 19 reorganized his cabinet, less three months after unveiling the broad-based government in a bid to steady the ship. 

In a dispatch from state house, President Ruto reassigned Kipchumba Murkomen to the powerful interior docket.  

Murkomen was Sports CS before the reshuffle. 

“In accordance with Article 152 (2) of the Constitution, His Excellency the President has nominated the following persons for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries,” reads the dispatch.

Ruto Picks 2 New CSs

Former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyajui has been nominated as the CS Investment, Trade and Industry while former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been picked as CS for Information, Communication and the Digital Economy.

Ruto has also picked former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe as the CS for Agriculture and Livestock.

Mvurya Moved & Board Chairperson Appointments

Trade CS Salim Mvurya has been moved to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports.

“His Excellency the President has, pursuant to Article 132 of the Constitution as read with Section 6 (1) State Corporations Act (CAP 446) and the enabling provisions of the respective Statutes, appointed the following persons to serve as Chairpersons of the enlisted State Corporations,” read another part of the dispatch.

Ruto has nominated former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi as the Chairperson, Board of Directors, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

Anthony Mwaura has been appointed as the Chairperson, Board of Directors, Kenya Rural Roads Authority.

Ruto has also appointed Kembi Gitiura as the Chairperson, Board of Directors, Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.

Ambassadors & High Commissioners

“In accordance with Article 132 (2) (e) of the Constitution, His Excellency the President has nominated the following persons to serve as Ambassadors and High Commissioners in Kenya’s foreign missions abroad, namely,” adds the dispatch.

Additionally, Ruto has nominated Agriculture CS Andrew Karanja as Kenya’s ambassador to Brazil and Ababu Namwamba as Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/ United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).

Namwamba served as Sports CS in Ruto’s first cabinet.

ICT CS Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u has been nominated as the High Commissioner to Ghana and Dorothy Angote as Commissioner to Zimbabwe.

Broad Based Government 

This is the second time President Ruto has reshuffled his cabinet.

Ruto disbanded the cabinet July after the Gen Z protests.

This was followed by the formation of a broad based government which brought in ODM leaders into cabinet. 

Treasury CS John Mbadi, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Cooperative CS Wycliffe Oparanya and Mining CS Ali Hassan Joho joined the cabinet from the opposition.
