Biography
Ndiritu Muriithi is a Kenyan politician who served as the second Governor of Laikipia County.
Muriithi has over 20 years of experience in public and private sector leadership.
Ndiritu Muriithi Education Background
He attended Shamanei Primary School, then Kagumo High School, before joining the prestigious Alliance High School for his A-levels in 1984-85.
In 1990, he graduated with a degree in Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University in Canada.
Later, in 1994 and 1995, he pursued a master’s degree in project management at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Muriithi, who is former president Kibaki’s nephew, is married to Maria Mbeneka- a seasoned lawyer.
Political Journey of Ndiritu
Ndiritu Muriithi served as the Governor of Laikipia County from August 2017 to August 2022.
He was elected in the August 2017 general elections after running as an independent candidate.
This followed his failure to secure the Jubilee Party’s nomination ticket.
But even when he went independent, he was sued for using President Kenyatta’s portrait in his posters and fined Ksh500, 000 by the Independent Electoral Boundary and Commission (IEBC).
Muriithi lost the Laikipia Governorship to Joshua Irungu in the Kenya 2022 General Elections.

Prior to becoming governor, he worked as the Member of Parliament for Laikipia West Constituency from January 2008 to February 2013.
Between May 2008 and February 2013, Ndiritu Muriithi he also served as an Industrialization Assistant Minister under Kibaki’s government while simultaneously representing Laikipia West Constituency as its MP.
He also did advisory work for the African Union to create the Africa Audio Visual and Cinema Commission to promote African content.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta also appointed him director in the Policy Compensations Fund.
Professional Career
Before venturing into politics, Ndiritu Muriithi worked as an Investment Professional at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a role he held from September 1999 to January 2007.
In this role he facilitated the growth and diversification of the private sector in emerging markets, especially in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
In June 2013 and February 2017, Ndiritu was a Partner at Ecocapp Capital, a Nairobi-based firm.
After losing the elections, Ndiritu Muriithi resumed his professional career and, in September 2022, became the Managing Partner at Ecocapp Capital in Nairobi.

Family
Muriithi, who is former and late president Mwai Kibaki’s nephew, is married to Maria Mbeneka a seasoned lawyer.
