Traffic flow along the Southern Bypass has been paralyzed after suspected goons blocked the road at Thogoto and Gitaru, disrupting travel to and from Kikuyu.
Photos seen by The Kenya Times show several piles of burning tires set across the road, sending up thick black smoke that partially obscures visibility.
A few people are seen on the road, with some standing near the fires while others appear to be moving away from the scene.
Additionally, two large trailers were strategically positioned to block the road.
This comes after the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, accused the Kikuyu Constituency Member of Parliament, Kimani Ichung’wah, of being behind plans to disrupt the DCP rally in Kikuyu.
In the letter dated April 10, 2026, the DCP party alleged that Kikuyu Member of Parliament has, on several occasions, made remarks, which it interpreted as threats targeting the planned rally.
Gachagua cited comments allegedly made during a public function at Alliance High School grounds on March 25, 2026, as well as remarks in Parliament on April 9, 2026, which it said suggest the mobilization of individuals who could target businesses in Kikuyu Town.
The party further claimed that despite what it terms as clear warnings, no action has been taken by security agencies.
“We have noted that despite the blatant threats and admission that he is privy to crimes that may be committed, the MP has not been summoned for further explanation, and no action has been taken,” read part of the statement.

DCP also alleged it has intelligence indicating plans to instigate violence involving organized groups, which it said could provoke a police response that may be used to disrupt the gathering.
It further claims there are plans to block major roads leading into Kikuyu Town by positioning disabled trucks along highways, allegedly to restrict access to the venue and interfere with movement of supporters and convoy vehicles.

Kimani Ichung’wah Responds to Gachagua
In response, the legislator wrote to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, accusing former Deputy President of running what he terms a “campaign of incitement, hate and violence” targeting Kikuyu residents.
The MP alleged that Gachagua has, over the past two weeks, engaged in activities aimed at destabilizing peace in the constituency and promoting ethnic tension.
He further claimed that the former Deputy President has enlisted media personalities to advance a narrative of division and hatred.
The MP cited the previous incidents of violence in the area, including the burning of Kikuyu NG-CDF offices on June 25, 2024, and attacks in June 2025 that allegedly affected the Kikuyu Law Courts, county offices, and private property linked to his family.
The MP urged the National Police Service to take urgent action to prevent any potential violence and safeguard residents, property and public order in Kikuyu Constituency.
