Matatu operator Super Metro has been granted an interim order allowing it to resume operations in its Nairobi routes.
The Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB) has temporarily revoked the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA)’s suspension of the fleet.

In an order issued on Monday, March 24, TLAB Chairman Dr. Adrian Kamotho ruled that the appeal be considered ex-parte in the first instance.
This means that the legal proceeding was brought by one party in the absence of and without representation of or notification to the other party.

Therefore, TLAB directed NTSA to respond by Tuesday, March 25.

Consequently, the ruling effectively lifts NTSA’s suspension issued on March 18, enabling Super Metro to continue operating across Nairobi and its routes as a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operator.
The matter will be fully heard on Thursday, March 27.
“The appellant is at liberty to immediately resume operations in due compliance with the law,” the court order read in part.
Additionally, the court order mandated immediate service of the court directive upon the Inspector General of the National Police Service.

Defense Issued by the Sacco After Suspension
In a press statement issued on March 20, 2025, Super Metro called on the NTSA to review their updated compliance status and reconsider the suspension of their operations.
The SACCO refuted NTSA’s claims that five of their 294 vehicles had expired inspection certificates, while fifteen lacked valid Road Service Licenses (RSL).
Super Metro maintained that the allegations against it were outdated and inaccurate, emphasizing that they had fully adhered to NTSA regulations and had already addressed any concerns raised during the investigation.
Additionally, they confirmed that all necessary inspection certificates and Road Service Licenses for the mentioned vehicles had been renewed before the suspension was enforced.
“We reaffirm that these claims are outdated and baseless, as we have remained fully compliant with NTSA regulations and have resolved all issues highlighted in their investigation,” the statement read.
