US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Russia, threatening that he will impose 100% tariffs on all Russian goods.
According to Trump, the move will take effect if a ceasefire deal in Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
The US president made the announcement while meeting Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte in the White House on Monday, July 14.
“We’re very, very unhappy with Russia, and we’re going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don’t have a deal in about 50 days,” Trump said during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office.
The tariffs would not only target Russia directly but also penalize other nations that continue to do business with Moscow.

Trump Announces Plans to Deliver Weapons to Ukraine
Further, Donald Trump has announced plans to deliver “top-of-the-line” weapons to Ukraine, via Nato, with the military alliance bearing the brunt of the cost.
Also, he cast doubt on whether he would back a Russia sanctions bill currently gaining momentum in the Senate.
Despite the bill having around 85 co-sponsors, enough to override a potential veto, he expressed hesitation.
“I’m not sure we need it. It could be very useful, we’ll have to see,” he said.
He also confirmed plans to meet with Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) to discuss the matter.
Thune previously stated that he intends to bring the sanctions bill to the Senate floor later this month.

Ukraine’s President and his Meeting
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he had ‘productive’ talks with the US envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, in Kyiv.
In recent weeks, Trump has voiced growing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin, especially as missile attacks on Ukrainian cities persist despite ongoing calls for a ceasefire.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, after it deployed troops along the border. Throughout his campaign, Trump pledged to end the war in just 24 hours, though he later clarified that the timeline was “sarcastic.”
In April, Donald Trump publicly questioned whether Russian President Vladimir Putin was genuinely interested in ending the war in Ukraine, as Russian forces continued to bomb civilian areas.
“It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war; he’s just tapping me along,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Though he initially gave Putin a two-week window to pursue peace, nearly three months later, it appears Trump’s patience has worn thin.
