TV47, which is owned by Cape Media, has fired renowned television host Ken Mijungu just weeks after hiring him.
Speaking to The Kenya Times, an insider said the bosses are currently discussing whether they should reinstate him or not.

His departure comes just a few weeks after he joined TV47 from Standard Media Group (SG).
Reports indicate that Cape Media CEO Lilian Makandi announced his dismissal in a letter dated February 22.

In the letter, Makandi said the management approved his request for an early contract termination which he submitted just days after joining TV47.
Mijungu wrote to Cape Media management on Friday, February 21, seeking time off to reflect on his engagement with the company.

”We acknowledge receipt of your email dated February 21, 2025, in which you requested time off to reflect on your engagement with the company,” the letter read in part.
”Having considered the matter, Management has taken the decision to revoke the Service Agreement dated January 31, 2025. This decision takes effect from February 22, 2025.”
However, Makandi wished him success and stated that the media house would be happy to work with him in the future.
”This development notwithstanding, we shall be pleased to engage with you on future possibilities. The management wishes you the best in your future endeavours,” the letter added.

Ken Mijungu
Mijungu officially joined TV47 on Februaryb7 after leaving Standard Group.
He announced the move in the streets of Nairobi using a placard.
“Same channel, same guy, just a better station! welcome to the home of untold stories, bigger, better, bolder now on DSTV channel 274,” read the message on the placard.
Cape Media announced the appointment on their social media platforms, stating that his extensive experience in political reporting and legal analysis was a valuable addition to TV47’s newsroom.

Media Career
He has 13 years of experience, starting at K24 TV (Mediamax) in 2008.
In December 2012, he joined CCTV (now CGTN) Africa as a reporter and covered high-profile assignments, including the Mpila military base explosion in Congo Brazzaville and the London conference on Somalia.
In February 2013, he joined Nation Media Group as a senior reporter, where he served for seven years before moving to SG in December 2020.
