The Nation Media Group (NMG) has once again hit the Standard Group at its nerve centre by poaching a top KTN journalist to bolster its newsroom. In a bold move, NTV has officially introduced Sycilia Wakesho as its latest signing.
This follows earlier moves that saw NTV pluck top talent including Eric Latiff, Fridah Mwaka, Lofty Matambo, Ibrahim Karanja, Duncan Khaemba, and Ben Kitili. Wakesho will be anchoring Swahili news bulletins at the station. In a promo shared online, Wakesho expressed her enthusiasm and excitement to join NMG.

“Ajaye bila hodi huondoka pasi kwaheri, basi naipiga hodi, hodi hodi ya aheri. Japokuwa mgeni hawezi kuona mwezi, niko hapa kuipiga kazi ya siri kuiweka wazi, bidii kuifukuza ajizi. Jina langu ni Sycilia Wakesho Mathuva, nguvu mpya ndani ya NTV.”
Loosely translated, this means: “One who arrives without knocking leaves without saying goodbye, so I knock. Although a guest may not see the moon, I am here to work hard and bring hidden stories to light.”

(My loyal fan, I know you have been searching for me tirelessly. What I was preparing is finally ready by God’s grace. We have arrived at NTV Kenya! The great team led by Lofty Matambo has warmly welcomed me. Let’s get to work!)
Former KTN News Anchor’s Career
Before joining NTV, Wakesho worked as a Swahili news anchor and bilingual reporter for KTN News.
She anchored shows such as “Yanayojiri” and “Jarida,” which aired daily from 11 AM to 1 PM.
During these shows, she interviewed different guests on topics ranging from gender issues to education and political matters on Fridays.
On Saturdays, she hosted “Mbiu Wikendi” at 4 PM and the “KTN LEO WIKENDI Bulletin” at 7 PM. Wakesho also reported on segments like “Shujaa wa Wiki” and “Mwanamke Ngangari.”
Prior to her time at KTN News, Wakesho worked as a reporter, anchor, and producer for GBS TV.

Sycilia holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, specializing in Broadcast Journalism, from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology – JKUAT.
Wakesho’s move to NMG comes at a time when the organization has welcomed new recruits, including former Citizen Journalist Janet Mbugua and former KTN and Spice FM Presenter Eric Latiff.
However, several journalists have recently left Nation Media Group, including Smriti Vidyarthi, Oliver Mathenge, and Roselyne Obala.
NTV, under the leadership of Joe Ageyo as its Editorial Director has seen massive transformation, giving competition a run for its money.
On the other hand, the Standard Group has been in the red for years.
As part of a wider plan to remain afloat, SG has offloaded hundreds of staff while others chose to voluntarily walk away.
