Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has given an update on the progress of the Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) complex, which is under construction.
The former Al-Duhail striker toured the construction site and expressed optimism about the project’s development.
In a video shared on his platform, Olunga revealed that the facility is now 60 per cent complete.
He noted that once completed, the academy situated in Othoro, Homa Bay County, will rank among the best football facilities in the country.
The upcoming sports complex will feature modern amenities, including a gym and is expected to serve as a training and development hub for young football talent in Kenya.
“As you can see, construction is going on right now, our field is almost ready, we are 60% done. Our gym over there, completely done. As you can see, they are drilling to get water to sustain this place,” Olunga shared.

The striker was also seen inspecting various sections of the busy construction site, closely monitoring the ongoing works.
MOFA focuses on sports mentoring and develops and trains talent ranging in age from under 10 to under 18.
In 2023, the academy signed partnership agreements with top academic and sporting institutions, including Agoro Sare School in Homa Bay County, St Mary’s School Yala in Siaya County, and Kisumu Day in Kisumu County, to further its mission of developing future football stars.

In addition to its training programs, MOFA also runs the MOFA Football Club, which competes in the Football Kenya Federation National Super League (NSL).
The club finished seventh in the just concluded 2024/25 season.
The update on the academy comes shortly after Olunga in late May confirmed his departure from Al Duhail SC, bringing to a close a successful four-and-a-half-year tenure in Qatar.

He leaves the club as its all-time top scorer with 130 goals. Since joining Al Duhail in January 2021, the striker made an immediate impact, scoring six goals in nine appearances during the 2020/21 season.

His consistency saw him score 24 goals in 20 matches in the 2021/22 campaign, 22 goals in 22 matches in 2022/23, and 16 goals in 18 outings during the 2023/24 season.
By May 2025, the Harambee Stars captain had scored 12 goals in just five matches, continuing his prolific form.
Olunga was instrumental in leading Al Duhail to major successes, including the 2022/23 Qatar Stars League title where he netted four goals in a title-deciding match against Al Shamal.
Under coach Hernán Crespo, the club secured a domestic treble that season, claiming the league title, Qatar Cup, and Ooredoo Cup.
His individual accolades include becoming the AFC Champions League top scorer in 2021 with nine goals in six matches and winning the Qatar Stars League Golden Boot in both the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.
The former Girona FC player was also named QNB Stars League Player of the Month in October-November 2021.
In December 2024, Olunga was honoured by the Kenyan Embassy in Doha for becoming Al Duhail’s all-time leading scorer.
