Senator Hezena Lemaletian has raised alarm over alleged threats to her life, accusing a politically connected family in Samburu County of targeting her in the wake of a failed engagement that recently made headlines.
In a statement released on June 16, Senator Hezena said an unnamed family in Samburu and their political allies should be held responsible if anything happens to her.
She linked the threats to unresolved clan rivalries and fallout from her public rejection of a marriage proposal last month.
“If anything happens to me, one family in Samburu and its allies in the political class should be blamed,” Lemaletian wrote.
“After miserably failing an attempt on my late father years ago (who beat them all mercilessly), they are now after me.”

In May 2025, Lemaletian revealed that her suitor’s marriage proposal had been deemed an “ambush” or siamu under Samburu customs.
The tradition requires that a suitor’s background be thoroughly vetted by the woman’s family elders before any steps toward marriage can be taken.
According to the senator, that vetting process uncovered troubling information, prompting her family to return the Ksh 100,000 dowry in full and terminate all talks of marriage.
“The elders of my family therefore halted the whole process after the background check and refused to accept dowry from that person,” she said in a previous post.
“All necessary steps were taken to ensure the conclusion to a complete final.”

“They are now after me; from swearing to ensure my engagement flopped by all means… to aiding social media abuse of my name with unfounded and very false allegations,” her Monday post continued.
She further warned that she had documented all relevant information and submitted it to authorities.
“I will continue to pursue justice until I get to the bottom of it. I have left the records of who these people are with the relevant authorities,” she said.
Senator Lemaletian, known for her firm stances and advocacy on youth and women’s issues, has previously clashed with local power brokers in northern Kenya, particularly around questions of governance and gender equity in Samburu.
