A recent survey by research firm Infotrak has placed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Wiper Party as the lead contenders for the Mombasa gubernatorial race.
According to a press statement released by Infortrak on Thursday, July 21, ODM’s Abdulswamad Nassir is ahead in the race to replace incumbent Hassan Joho by 50 per cent of possible votes.
WIPER party’s Mike Sonko follows Abudlswamad closely in the race with 22 per cent likely votes.
Sonko whose clearance to vie for the seat was met with a series of challenges and blockades got a reprieve after the Supreme Court in a Thursday, July 21 ruling allowed to review his impeachment verdict.
“The reason Sonko is in this poll is that the survey was conducted before his certificate was revoked. We also understand that he is still battling the matter in court,” Infotrak’s Johvine Wanyingo said.
UDA’s Hassan Omar is third at 9 per cent, while PAA’s William Kingi trails at 1 per cent.
The proportion of undecided voters for the Governor’s seat was found to be 18 per cent.
The survey further revealed that ODM is still the most popular party in the county at 51 per cent, followed by UDA at 20 per cent, Wiper at 2 per cent while the ruling Jubilee trails at 1 per cent.
Infotrak said that they interviewed a total of 2,400 respondents both male and female, who are registered voters in Mombasa County.
