President William Ruto has promised to transform Kibera slums into an estate.
Ruto says he will change the livelihoods of Kibera slum dwellers through the ongoing affordable housing programme.
“God willing, by the end of my term, I want to change Kibera to be a real estate, not a slum,” Ruto said.
President Ruto says his dream will succeed through the cooperation with the private sector.
He said 5,000 housing units were already under construction in the area with a similar number set to be launched progressively.
Kibera has an estimated population of 250,000 people.
“Tunataka nchi iko na infrastructure ambayo itafaidi wakenya wote, kama ni mabarabara inafaidi watu wote, kama ni manyuma pia ifaidi kila mtu,” he said..
During the forum, Ruto also courted the stakeholders as he sought for funding to help him realise such government projects mainly on housing and roads.
