The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested an American who ingested several pellets of cocaine in his bid to traffic them from the United States to Saudi Arabia through Kenya.
DCI in a statement on Tuesday, February 18 said that the American who had traveled from the U.S. state of Alabama is currently recovering at a hospital in Nairobi after developing serious abdominal complications following the ingestion.

According to DCI, the suspect was on Sunday, February 16 taken to the hospital by his friend where he was admitted for examination after exhibiting symptoms of excessive drugging.
This was before a doctor at the facility alerted anti-narcotics detectives who visited the facility to witness an endoscopy process on the suspect in which three pellets that tested positive for Cocaine were recovered from the suspect’s rectum.

“Today, a doctor at the hospital alerted anti-narcotics detectives from DCI Headquarters who visited the facility to witness an endoscopy process on the suspect. Three pellets were recovered from the suspect’s rectum, which tested positive for Cocaine weighing 57.98g. The exhibit was seized and documented,” read part of the statement.

Further, DCI said that the doctor also confirmed the presence of an extra pellet stuck in the suspect’s small intestines, and medical help is being offered to have it removed.
Detectives have since established that the U.S. national was temporarily residing at an Airbnb in Nairobi’s Westlands area and was due to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Saudi Arabia at 1800 hrs on the day he was taken ill.
“He was to travel to Saudi Arabia through Addis Ababa. His travel and personal documents have been confiscated pending his recovery, whereafter he will face relevant drug trafficking charges,” added DCI.
Amphetamines seized
Meanwhile, DCI anti-narcotics officers based at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday afternoon seized suspected amphetamines drug that had been concealed in 10 large candles packed in a carton.

The drugs were seized from a shipment destined for Australia from Bujumbura, Burundi.
According to the directorate, the discovery was made during a verification exercise at the DHL Cargo Shed at Cargo area.
Tests on the whitish crystalline substance found stashed in the carton and wrapped using a yellow cellotape tested positive for the highly addictive drug.
The shipment was seized, and further investigations are underway to track down the traffickers.
