The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested two suspects, a man and his girlfriend, believed to be the masterminds behind a series of heists in the Mombasa and Mariakani areas.
DCI in a statement on Thursday, August 8, stated that the duo is suspected of involvement in multiple robberies, including a violent incident that led to a fatality on July 18, 2024.
“Two infamous suspects, Harun Kariuki, 33, and his alleged accomplice and girlfriend, Christine Nyakio Kinyua, 20, have been apprehended by a crack team of officers from DCI Kaloleni and Mariakani police station,” DCI said in statement.
The suspects are also linked to a separate abduction and robbery on July 24, 2024, as well as a shooting incident that occurred on July 17, 2024.
DCI Details How the Suspects were Arrested
According to the DCI, the suspects were arrested after a relentless pursuit, during which officers successfully tracked them down at their hideout in Samburu township.
A thorough search of the suspects’ residence led to the discovery of a trove of stolen goods, including nine assorted mobile phones, three hard disks, a 24-inch Aucma TV, and two generators.

Additionally, the officers recovered a laptop, a laminated motorcycle registration number plate (KMGB 786D), and a helmet bearing registration number KMFX 866Q.
The suspects are currently in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings, while the recovered items have been preserved as crucial exhibits.
The DCI has also issued a warning to the public, urging individuals to refrain from engaging in criminal activities, as such actions will be met with the full force of the law.
