The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued an update on a preliminary breakthrough in the investigation into the fatal shooting of Dr. Victoria Mutiso.
In a statement on July 30, the DCI noted that the homicide detectives working together with specialized forensic and investigative teams have made substantial progress in the Nairobi Upper Hill murder on July 29.
According to the agency, detectives have pursued multiple leads through witness interviews, forensic examinations and targeted operations to uncover the circumstances surrounding the murder.
During the operations, investigators conducted searches at premises linked to persons of interest in the murder case.
Further, detectives recovered several exhibits deemed relevant to the investigation and linked to the two persons of interest who are currently in custody.
“The DCI further confirms that two persons of interest are in lawful custody and are undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations,” part of the statement outlined.

Following the investigation process into the death of Victoria Mutiso, the DCI has recovered items that are currently undergoing detailed forensic analysis.
According to the agency, the forensic analysis on the recovered items will establish a possible connection of the parties in custody to the fatal shooting.
Despite the arrest of the persons of interest in the fatal shooting, the authorities have declined to reveal their identities, citing the need to protect the integrity of the probe.
“The identities of the persons of interest are being withheld at this stage to safeguard the integrity of the ongoing investigation,” the DCI said.
Investigators have also indicated that additional operations and investigative actions are ongoing to analyze evidence and pursue other critical leads behind the killing.

Victoria Mutiso’s Murder
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations confirmed the death of the clinical psychologist and mental health researcher on July 29.
At the time of her death, Victoria Nthunya Mutiso served as the Head of Research at the Africa Mental Health Research and Training Foundation (AMHRT).
Further, she also served as a principal investigator and co-investigator in local and international mental health research projects and was involved in the Project HOPE research program.
Nairobi Police commander Issa Mohamud confirmed that the authorities had launched an immediate investigation and were pursuing leads into the murder of Victoria, which, according to Issa, was a targeted killing.
In addition to launching the investigation, officers from the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), police, and DCI secured and processed the crime scene.
Forensic exhibits from the scene were further collected and documented to aid in the investigation.
Witnesses at the scene were also interviewed as part of the ongoing effort to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of the clinical psychologist and mental health researcher.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, officers visited the facility where Icytora worked to gather more information during the investigation.
