Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers arrested Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Gabriel Kagombe in connection to a murder that happened in Thika, Kiambu County.
Kagombe will spend the weekend in police custody after he was arrested on Friday, May 31, evening in connection with the murder of a boda-boda rider in Thika, Kiambu County.
According to the DCI, the Gatundu South MP was arrested in the Kileleshwa area following a three-days police manhunt for him and is currently being held at the Kamukunji Police Station.
Detectives from the homicide unit have since revealed what led to the arrest of the parliamentarian who was believed to have been hiding until his arrest.

DCI noted that the MP’s arrest came after they conducted ballistics on all firearms that were at the scene on the fateful day.
What led to the arrest of Kagombe
Following preliminary investigations, the detectives confirmed that MP Kagombe owned the weapon that discharged the bullet.

Ballistics experts conduct comparative examinations of bullet (s) to determine if their rifling patterns match and if they came from the same gun.
This can be useful in prosecutions by identifying a suspect based on their possession of the firearm used to fire the bullets found at the crime scene.
Kagombe is likely to face murder charges at the Kiambu Law Courts on Monday, June 3rd according to the detectives.
The arrest came eleven days after chaos that erupted in the Kiganjo area of Thika led to the shooting of a 26-year-old boda-boda rider.
MP Kagombe had attended a ceremony on May 17, 2024, to launch the construction of a market in the area when chaos erupted.
The chaos that erupted was between the supporters of Thika MP Alice Wahome and Kamenu Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Mburu.

According to reports, MP Ng’ang’a accompanied by three other parliamentarians was coming from a food donation event at a church located in the area.
Ng’ang’a was flanked by MP Kagombe together with Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu), and Njoroge Kururia (Gatundu North).
At the same time, MCA Mburu was supervising the construction of market sheds in the same area, according to police reports.
Fatal Incident
The two rival groups then started pelting stones at each other as Ng’ang’a, her colleagues and a large crowd approached the marketplace.
The skirmishes left one person dead while several others suffered multiple injuries. David Nudati, a 26-year-old man, was fatally shot.
Following the shooting, DCI officers ordered all firearm holders who were present during the melee to surrender their guns to their Kiambu Road headquarters.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has been calling for the prosecution of the perpetrators.
On Thursday, May 13, Wamuchomba in a statement raised concern that no arrest had been made by the time.
“Unfortunately, since the shooting, nobody has been arrested to date, yet videos of the shooting incident have been circulating featuring 4 Members from Kiambu county in the scene,” she noted.
The MP added that they have been assured by the DCI that arrests would be made having made a follow up to the case.
On his part, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi while reacting to the incident claimed that he was the main target of the shooting.
Wamatangi said that he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt while claiming that the perpetrators of the incident thought he would attend the event.
