A 25-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of the manager at Chandarana Supermarket located within Buffalo Mall in Naivasha.
The suspect identified as Joseph Mungai Wanjira, was arrested on June 5, following a thorough search by detectives which led to his hideout in Naivasha town.
“Joseph Mungai Wanjira was flushed out of his hideout within Naivasha town at 1pm today, following days of scrupulous search for the cold-blooded killer,” said the DCI in a statement.
The gruesome murder took place on May 22, 2024, when workers at the supermarket arrived at the mall early that morning, only to find the doors locked.
After waiting for an extended period, they decided to call the manager on duty, Hassan Abdullatif Salim, to inquire about the delay.
Supervisors Head to the Manager’s House
However, his phone went unanswered, prompting supervisors to go check on him at his residence.
Upon arriving at his house, they were shocked to discover blood spots at the door, despite the house being locked.

This raised an alarm, prompting them to notify police, who quickly rushed to the scene and forced entry into the house only to find the body of the 38-year-old manager sprawled on the floor in a pool of blood.
Signs of a struggle were evident, with various household items missing.
The police investigation was thorough, with crucial evidence including CCTV footages obtained and the scene documented by CSI detectives.
Police Launch Their Pursuit of the Suspect
The pursuit for the perpetrator(s) commenced immediately, with intelligence analysis eventually leading to the identification of Joseph Mungai Wanjira as the prime suspect.
Upon his arrest, Wanjira was found in possession of most of the items stolen from the deceased’s house.

“Intelligence analysis gave away the prime suspect, in whose possession were found most of the items stolen from the deceased’s house including a TV set, a 6kg Pro Gas, a Samsung tablet, a hoodie branded NASA and a blood-stained bag.”
After a brief interrogation, Wanjira led detectives to the scene of the crime, and retrieved the two murder weapons he had used to commit the horrific act: a kitchen knife and a piece of wood.
“Further documentation of the scene has since been conducted and the suspect booked in Naivasha police cells pending arraignment for Robbery with Violence,” said the DCI.
