Police officers arrested six robbery suspects while they were escaping from an apartment in Ruaka Estate, Nairobi.
In a statement, the Kenya Police Service (KPS) said the officers arrested the six robbers and recovered some items they use to break into houses.
“Six robbery with violence suspects have been arrested by general duty officers based at Ruaka police post and several items used in the commission of their criminal activities recovered,” the statement read in part.
KPS said that the suspects: Morgan Mungai Mburu, Stephen Kamau Njoroge, Alexander Kibogoro Waimaitha, Reinhard Mwangi Ngumba, Erick Mwiru, and Gregory Nganga are all aged between 22-27 years.
The gang of six was nabbed while escaping from an apartment in Ruaka where they had intended to hit but escaped upon noticing that the owner of the house was already aware of their evil plans.
The police officers responded to calls from the targeted victims, intercepted the suspect’s escape vehicle, and arrested them.
“Hawk-eyed officers responded to an alert from the would-be victim where they intercepted the thugs’ getaway Matatu, registration number KAR 921Q, and from therein smoked them out,” KPS said.
Upon conducting a search, the officers recovered two toy pistols, six pocket phones, housebreaking implements among other items.
“The scenes were processed and documented by DCI Crime Scene Investigation personnel whereas the suspects have been placed in custody pending arraignment,” KPS said.
In recent months, the National Police Service (NPS) and the DCI have stepped up efforts against robbery, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.
