The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested two suspects captured on CCTV camera attacking an individual with a panga and knife in Mombasa County.
In a statement, DCI said the two are notorious robbery-with-violence suspects in the region, with several complaints filed against them.
“DCI detectives drawn from Coast Regional Headquarters have arrested two individuals believed to be behind a spate of robberies while wielding pangas and using a motorcycle as their mode of transport,” the statement read in part.
Mohammed Ibrahim Shaban, 22, and Abdulaziz Ali Ogutu, 19, were arrested at their hideout in Utange village, where they were planning their next attack.
The duo is believed to be behind a series of panga attacks, including a violent robbery that resulted in a fatal incident on July 18, 2024.
They are also linked to three separate robberies on September 14, 2024, in Majengo, Makupa, and Tononoka.
DCI Recovers Items
A search of their residence resulted in the recovery of several items, including one panga, three knives, two assorted mobile phones, two backpacks, and an ID card belonging to Yusuf Amani Yusuf, among other items.
“DCI extends sincere appreciation to members of the public for their unwavering support in the fight against crime and sends a stern warning to would-be criminals that no resources will be spared in the fight against their unlawful ways,” the statement read.

However, the victim managed to grab a mopping stick that was nearby and used it to defend himself.
They retreated before trying to attack him again, approaching him from both sides of the vehicle.
All this while, the driver of the motorcycle sat watching the three, waiting for them to finish and speed off.
When the suspects felt overpowered, they boarded the motorcycle and fled the scene.
