A woman pleaded guilty to stabbing her husband in the stomach before an Eldoret Court.
The 22-year old identified as Ruth Chepkurui, admitted committing the crime before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan on Tuesday, June 7, stating that she was defending herself after a domestic dispute.
“Your honour, I am remorseful of what happened, and I was only defending myself from the hostile lover,” she said.
According to the mother of one, she attacked her lover identified as James Rorman, for allegedly having extramarital affairs, something she said pushed her to the wall, leading to a fight.
Moreover, the court was informed that the accused attacked the complainant on May 26 night at Boma village in Uasin Gishu County where she subjected him to grievous harm.
Witnesses who say the couple has been having frequent domestic fights, reported that on that fateful day, the duo engaged in a physical fight before Ruth Chepkirui supposedly drew a kitchen knife and stabbed James.
“On the night of the incident, we heard a commotion only to learn that the accused confronted her husband upon learning he was having an affair with another woman,” one of her neighbors said.
The victim was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, in critical condition, where he was admitted for six days and discharged on June 3. According to the medical examination report from the Hospital, James Rorman was seriously injured.
Nonetheless, the court ordered probation officers to perform a social inquiry about the general character of the accused ahead of sentencing.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned on June 27.
