Dr. Reuben Kigame is a Kenyan teacher, musician, journalist, scholar, and activist. Over the years, Kigame has been involved in the fight for character-driven leadership, constitutional democracy, and people-centred economic development in Kenya and around Africa.
Some of his most popular songs, like “Enda Nasi,” are staples in Kenyan worship services, ministering through Sifa Voices, a ministry he founded. In addition to music, Kigame runs a recording entity, Kigame Music Productions, in Eldoret.
As a person living with a disability (blindness), Kigame has been a strong advocate for the rights of people with disabilities in Kenya, using his personal experiences to highlight the challenges faced by people with disabilities, including access to education, employment, and social services.
In 2022, Kigame threw his hat in the ring for the presidency in Kenya, daring to be the 5th president of the country. He was, however, barred from the ballot by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after falling short of the minimum signature requirement, a move he challenged in court.
In a show of resilience, the gospel minister has since officially announced his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 General Election under the “Jenga Mkenya” movement.
Early Life and Educational Background
Reuben Kigame was born on March 13, 1966, in East Bunyore, Vihiga County, Kenya. His mother was a craftswoman who made clay pots, while his father worked as a long-distance driver.
He lost his vision at the age of three due to a severe illness, later identified as cataracts in both eyes, a condition that was not detected in time to be treated due to his family’s poverty and limited medical services in their rural home.
He spent part of his childhood in Kisumu, near Lake Victoria, which deeply influenced his music, as seen in songs like “Sweet Bunyonyi” and “Back To My Childhood”.
For his education, Kigame attended the Kibos School for the Blind in Kisumu and proceeded to the Salvation Army High School for the Blind in Thika.
He earned a Bachelor of Education Honours from Kenyatta University, where he recorded his first gospel album in 1987 at the age of 21 and led the university student choir.

Between 2024 and 2025, Kigame completed his PhD research, which focused on using gospel music as a tool for justice advocacy.
Kigame teaches at institutions such as Africa International University and his own music academy, specializing in subjects like philosophy of religion, church history, and music production.
Career and Achievements
He founded the ‘Seeing Hands Ministry,’ an initiative that supports people with disabilities. His efforts have contributed to a growing awareness of disability rights and inclusion in Kenya.
Apart from being the founder of Sifa Voices and CEO of Kigame Music Productions, he is a pioneer for journalists with disabilities. He founded and managed Fish FM, a radio station in Eldoret that provided a platform for Christian content and trained numerous Kenyan journalists.

Reuben Kigame has been married twice, and he currently lives with his second wife, Julie Alividza Kigame. He often credits her as a vital source of strength and support in his music ministry and political career.
Julie previously worked for the European Union but resigned to support their family and Kigame’s multifaceted career.
In August 2025, they celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary. Together, they have a son, Yeshua Wagasa Kigame.
In his first marriage, Kigame married Mercy Kigame in 1991, whom he met at Kenyatta University. Mercy, however, tragically died in a road accident in September 2006, leaving behind 3 daughters: Shalom, Shekinah, and Shema.
