Asumbi Girls High School is a national girls’ school located in Homa Bay County. The learning institution was officially founded on March 19, 1936, by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of St. Joseph.
Initially, Asumbi began as a lower primary school under the sponsorship of the Mill Hill Missionaries, who were then part of the Catholic Diocese of Kisumu.
The institution gradually evolved into an intermediate school, and in 1965, it admitted its first cohort of secondary school students. The primary section was phased out in 1968, as the school transitioned into a full-fledged secondary school.
With the introduction of Kenya’s 8-4-4 education system, which replaced the former academic structure, Asumbi Girls presented its first candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1989.
The school then began enrolling students who had completed the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
In 2023, the KCPE was officially phased out and replaced by the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), a key component of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Today, Asumbi Girls High School occupies 20 acres of land and continues to grow in stature and student population.

Under guidelines introduced in 2020 by the Ministry of Education, Kenya’s 103 national schools were grouped into four clusters.
Asumbi Girls was placed in Cluster One (I), setting the official annual fee cap at approximately Ksh75,798.
However, this fee may vary slightly depending on the school’s additional levies, which may cover school uniforms, motivational programs, co-curricular activities, and institutional development projects.
