Agoro Sare High School is an extra-county boys’ school in Rachuonyo South Sub-County, Homa Bay County.

The school was established in 1963 as a one-streamed school under the visionary leadership of Mr. J.E. Mbori as the first Principal and Mr. Gedeon M. Abon’g as the chairman of the Board of Management.

That same year, the late President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta visited the school and donated funds for the construction of three dormitories, enabling the institution to introduce a second stream.

In 1968, the then Vice President and Minister for Home Affairs, the late Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, officially opened the school.

Agoro Sare launched a single-stream A-Level Arts program in 1971 before the second stream was commissioned two years later.

The advent of the 8-4-4 system necessitated the incorporation of a third stream.

Agoro Sare had grown to an enrollment of 2,350 students as of 2023 and now accommodates students under the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Seventeen administrators have steered the school since its inception.

Also, the school boasts a distinguished list of alumni who have excelled in various fields, including former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary Akello Misori, and former Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero among many others.

Agoro Sare High School performance

Over the years, the school has experienced phenomenal growth and has consistently posted strong performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national examinations.

In the 2020 KCSE, the school produced the top student in Kenya, Wasonga Udoma, further cementing its status as a premier institution for academic and personal growth.

In the 2024 KCSE, the school had 553 candidates, with 98% achieving the minimum university entry grade under full government sponsorship.

36 students scored a C+, 6 scored a C, 3 scored a C- and the lowest grade recorded was a D+, obtained by one student.

The school’s impressive performance saw the 2024 candidates achieve a mean score of 9.1754.

School Fees

The government had earlier set a directive specifying the highest amount parents should pay in annual school fees.

The total annual fees per student at Agoro Sare High School is approximately Ksh40,535, which serves as the fee cap set by the Ministry of Education for extra county schools in Kenya.

However, the actual fees may differ slightly from one school to another due to extra charges imposed by individual institutions for items like uniforms, motivation programs, or co-curricular activities.
