Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced an extension of the Grade 10 placement review period as the opening date for schools countrywide beckons.
In a statement on December 30, CS Ogamba announced that the review has been extended to January 6–9, 2026, offering learners another opportunity to request reconsideration of their senior school placements.
“However, interested learners will still have an opportunity to apply for further review from 6th January, 2026 to 9th January, 2026,” read the statement in part.
This comes after the initial review period, which ran from December 23rd to 29th, 2025, during which a record number of applications were processed.
The placement of learners to Grade 10 of Senior School commenced on 14th December, 2025, running until 19th December, 2025, when the placement results were released.
CS Ogamba On Placement Statistics
According to the CS, Julius Ogamba, on December 30, a total of 355,457 applications for placement review were received.
Of these, 211,636 applications were approved, while 143,821 applications were declined.
The majority of the declined applications were due to the lack of available subject combinations or insufficient capacity in the selected schools.

“We received an unprecedented number of review requests, and while many learners secured their preferred placements, some schools experienced overwhelming demand,” said CS Ogamba.
Pathway Distribution
The Ministry confirmed that, following both the initial placement and the first review, 88% of learners have been placed in line with their selections, either original or revised.
Of those placed, 51% were assigned to the STEM pathway, 38% to Social Sciences, and 11% to Arts & Sports Science.
Schools with high demand, such as Alliance High School, Kenya High School, and Mang’u High School, received up to 20,000 review applications each, despite having an average capacity of only 500 slots.

This imbalance, according to CS Ogamba, contributed to a large number of declined applications.
“Learners who were not approved have been informed of the reasons for their application being declined, primarily due to capacity limits or unavailable subject combinations,” the statement read.
The Cabinet Secretary added that learners who have been approved for Grade 10 placement can access their joining instructions from 30th December 2025 on the official placement portal.
The instructions provide detailed information on reporting dates, school requirements, and the necessary documentation for registration.

Let say the truth, there was no individual communication to students who were declined. The systems was unfair to other students. There was no uniformity in the selection criteria. Some students with high score were given C2 when some of their peers with lower scores were admitted to C1 schools. The system was not allowing to select 4 schools as reported. The ground was different. It was just one school.
The initial schools a student had selected earlier were differed leaving one or two while fixing others to placements even when they are as strange as they are to the student and parents contrary to their wishes and even their scores.
The system it just ok.I am proud of this system and i know the government working very carefully to make sure at the end of 9/1/26every child who sat examination will get a school according to their result.
The process was really unfair as even my child got 63.4ponts & he was 1st posted to a C3 day school ,during placement changing no any reaction to the Headteacher from the Ministry upto date leaving me unprepared to assign the student unknowing where to go
