Kahuhia Girls High School is an extra-county girls’ secondary school located in Murang’a County.
The school was established in 1957 with just 30 students and a few teachers seconded from the Intermediate School, popularly known as Mambeere among the Kikuyu community.
In its early days, the school used the learning, administrative, and boarding facilities of Mambeere as it set its foundation.
The school was founded through a collaborative effort between the local community and missionaries, driven by a shared vision to empower girls through education.
Kahuhia Girls High School history
From the onset, Kahuhia Girls showed strong academic prospects, consistently sending a significant number of students to A-level schools, colleges, and universities. Over the years, the school has grown from a single stream to a four-stream institution.
Its A-level classes performed remarkably well in the former EZZCE and later KACE examinations until these were phased out in 1989 with the introduction of the 8-4-4 system.
Since then, the institution has been admitting candidates who sat the national high school entrance examination, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

The last KCPE was administered in 2023 after it was replaced by the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) under the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Over the years, the school has continued to record top performances in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national examinations, featuring among the top 200 countrywide.
School Fees
The government has previously issued a directive to all institutions regarding the total fees parents should pay per year.
The total annual fees per student at Kahuhia Girls is approximately Ksh40,535, which serves as the fee cap set by the Ministry of Education for extra county schools in Kenya.
However, the total fees may vary from school to school due to additional expenses introduced by respective institutions, such as uniforms, motivation fees, and extra activities.
The actual fees may, however, differ slightly from one school to another due to extra charges imposed by individual institutions for items like uniforms, motivation programs, or co-curricular activities.
Some schools charge parents/guardians a high of Ksh60,000 annually.
