The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued an alert to Kenyans warning them against fraudsters claiming to have influence over the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) marks.
In the December 11 statement, the examination council noted that no individual has the ability to influence the scores of any national examination.
“Do not fall prey to fraudsters purporting to be able to adjust scores. Absolutely no one can influence the scores of any national examination,” warned the council.
Notably, the warning comes following a series of fraudulent messages being used by fraudsters to rob off innocent Kenyans.
KNEC went on to share one of the text messages being used by the fraudsters, labelling it as a fake text and disassociated itself from all other similar texts.
Fraudulent Texts
In the text messages, the fraudsters claim to be having connections that give them influence over the KCSE marks.
Additionally, they go on to demand for a Ksh9,000 ransom as the fee for upgrading one’s KCSE marks, after which one will send the required details.

“Hello, send 9K for registration so that I can organize for your KCSE upgrading which is ongoing.
Requirements include school code and index numbers for strong and weak students,” read one of the fake texts shared by KNEC.
KNEC on KCSE Release
Also, on December 6, the examination council clarified reports on the release dates of KCSE results.
In a statement, the examination council flagged reports that Education Cabinet secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu had made a decision to postpone the release of KCSE exams.
“There is a possibility that the release of KCSE exams will be postponed to January. The malpractices primarily stem from schools in northeastern region,” read part of a flagged post.
However, KNEC went on to refute such claims noting that neither the education CS nor the council had issued any official communication on the KCSE release dates.

Also, the council added that the results of the national examinations which ended on November 24, will be released when they are ready.
At the same time, the council has urged members of the public to get reliable information from its official social media handles.
“To get accurate information regarding KCSE examinations or any other national examinations administered by KNEC, please follow our official social media handles,” KNEC stated.
