Maasai Mara University has reinstated examination results for students who sat Semester II exams of the 2024/2025 academic year without authorization, provided they have cleared their outstanding fees.
During a Special Meeting held on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, the University Senate reviewed the request and resolved that results for affected students who had cleared their fees after the deadline would be reinstated.
The decision follows a request from the Students’ Council, which presented the appeal to the University Senate.
“Following implementation of the Senate verdict on cancellation of examination results for candidates who sat Semester II examinations for the 2024/2025 Academic Year without authorization, the Students’ Council representatives presented their request to the Senate,” the memo read.
The student leaders acknowledged that the affected candidates contravened the rules but appealed for leniency. They further assured Senate of students’ compliance with the fee payment policy from now henceforth.

For students who have not yet cleared their fees, results will be withheld until they fulfill their fee obligations.
“Such candidates must clear all outstanding fees by Monday, September 1, 2025, to access their results,” a memo from the Office of the Registrar, Academic Affairs, dated August 13, read.
The university also confirmed that Supplementary and Special Examinations will continue as scheduled and reiterated that the fee payment policy will be strictly enforced going forward.
“Senate reaffirmed that the University’s fee payment policy will be strictly enforced, and all students are required to comply fully with its provisions,” the memo stated.

Why University Cancelled Students Exams
The decision follows an earlier ruling by Senate on 5 August 2025, which cancelled the results of students who sat exams without authorization.
“Senate during its meeting held on Tuesday 5th August 2025 considered a report on Examination results for the 2024/2025 Academic year and observed that some students sat the 2nd Semester Examinations of the 2024/2025 Academic Year without authorization contrary to Section 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 of the Rules and Regulations governing University Examinations,” the previous notice read.
“All results for candidates who sat the January–April 2025 examinations without authorization are cancelled.”
The affected students were directed to clear their fees before sitting supplementary exams from 6–20 August 2025.
The university further directed students to note that any results communicated in their verdict letters are null and void if they contravened the stated regulations.

Students Frustrated as University Cancels Exams Despite Partial Fee Payments
The decision to cancel examination results sparked outcry among affected students, many of whom struggled to meet fee obligations under difficult circumstances
One student described the ordeal, saying, “The student body fought, and they agreed that we pay at least 60% of our fees by September 2025 so we could sit the exams. That became my mission. I got a job as a bar attendant in May, working nights for 500 shillings a shift. It was tough.”
“Some days, I’d come to class completely exhausted, but I pushed myself. By August, I had cleared my 60% and felt so proud. Then… they cancelled my exams, saying they were null and void. Just like that,” she said.
On his part, a Facebook user, Ogeto Masiria, lamented, “The government gave a clear directive: all students should sit for their exams, regardless of whether they had cleared their full fees. This was a humane, progressive move recognizing that some students have genuine financial constraints not that they haven’t paid anything, just that they hadn’t finished paying.”
