St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School is a public extra-county boys’ secondary school located in Kakamega County.
The school was established in 1958 and is sponsored by the Roman Catholic Church under the Diocese of Kakamega.
Known for its academic discipline and holistic education, St Peter’s Mumias Boys has consistently ranked among Kenya’s top-performing schools.
Apart from academic excellence, the institution is also a powerhouse in co-curricular activities, particularly in rugby and football.
In August 2025, St Peter’s Mumias Boys reclaimed the national rugby 7s title after staging a hard-fought victory 14-12 against bitter rivals Koyonzo Boys at the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) final at Bull Ring Grounds Kakamega, further reinforcing its national reputation.

St. Peter’s Mumias Boys KCSE 2024 performance
In the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, the school presented 576 candidates. Out of these, 529 students attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above, representing a direct university transition rate of 91.84%.
Mumias Boys posted an impressive mean score of 8.1861, which corresponds to a mean grade of B- (minus). This was a slight negative deviation of -0.3954 from the previous year’s mean.
No candidate scored an A plain, but 16 students attained an A-. A further 66 candidates earned a B+, while 144 students scored a solid B. The largest number of candidates, 184, scored a B-.

A total of 119 candidates attained a C+, 40 students scored a C plain, while 6 received a C-.
School fees
The government previously issued a directive to all institutions regarding the total fees parents should pay per year.
The total annual fees per student at Mumias Boys were capped at approximately Ksh40,535, which serves as the fee cap set by the Ministry of Education for extra-county schools in Kenya.
However, the total fees may vary from school to school due to additional expenses introduced by respective institutions, such as uniforms, motivation fees, and extra activities.
