The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has invited applications from tutors interested in jobs as Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers.
In a statement on Tuesday, February 20, TSC announced that it was deploying teachers to work in JSS schools with the deadline set for March 18.
“The Commission is deploying teachers to Junior School. Those who wish to be deployed are encouraged to apply,” the Commission announced.
In the statement, the Commission specified that teachers serving under permanent and pensionable contracts in public primary schools and meet requisite qualifications are encouraged to apply.
According to information by the Commission, applicants should be Kenyan citizens and have a P1 certificate. In addition, candidates should be holders of a bachelor’s degree in education and have certification in at least two subjects.
Other boxes candidates will be required to tick include having attained a C+ mean grade in the KCSE and be a TSC registered teacher.
How to Apply
Applications for deployment to the Junior Schools will be made online, according to TSC. To apply, log on to your TSC account through the link (tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login)
Upon keying in login credentials, you will access the website’s features and other details including requirements for the job. Navigate to the deployment section and select the option for junior secondary school.
Then proceed to fill out the application form with accurate information and upload any required documents and submit your application before the deadline of 18th March 2024.

The deployment opportunities present a chance for teachers to advance their careers, especially at a time the education sector is transitioning to the new era of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
TSC promise to promote teachers
Speaking during the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in January, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia announced that the government was working to address the deficit of teachers in schools.
Macharia explained that the number of teachers required in the primary schools (grades 1-6) had significantly reduced and as such the teachers’ employer was planning to promote teachers to the JSS.

“As a commission, we continue reviewing our systems and levels at both primary and post-primary levels to ensure that teachers are equitably distributed in institutions across the country as we prepare our students to sit the final exams,” CEO Nancy Macharia said in the event at Moi Girls, Eldoret.
“We take note that the implementation of the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) in our primary and junior schools has shaken up the staffing levels.”
