A new twist has emerged in the death of Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joel Munuve, who died while in the process of collecting signatures to impeach Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
While speaking at a joint press conference held on Saturday, April 26, Nairobi MCAS, through their lawyer Duncan Okatch, claimed that Munuve might have died as a result of medical negligence.
“He sought help from a medical facility. Ideally, it is our expectation that if that medical facility had done its homework, maybe Mheshimiwa would have been here, and we would not even be sitting here,” Duncan Okatch said.
Additionally, the lawyer stated that they are satisfied with the independent autopsy results conducted by a pathologist representing the MCAs, which ruled out foul play in Munuve’s death.
“All the pathologists. All of them were unanimous. The big English word here is that they were unanimous. They were all unanimous that the cause of death is actually the blood clot that went to the pulmonary artery,” said Duncan.
Nairobi MCAs Claim Munuve Might Have Died Because of Medical Negligence
According to County Assembly Pathologist Dr. Atandi, Munuve died from Pulmonary Embolism, which is a result of a blood clot that blocks the main artery in the lungs.
“All the pathologists that we were with had a consensus that the cause of death of Munuve was pulmonary thromboembolism, which is the blockage of the pulmonary artery due to a blood clot in the left leg,” said Dr. Atandi.
Dr. Atandi’s autopsy mirrors Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor’s autopsy conducted on Friday, April 25, 2025, which established that Munuve had died as a result of a blood clot and a lack of sufficient oxygen.

Meanwhile, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has pleaded with Kenyans to stop politicizing the death of Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joel Munuve, who was in the process of collecting signatures to impeach him before he died. Appearing on Citizen TV on Wednesday, April 24, 2025, the Nairobi Governor wondered why a section of Kenyans is linking the MCA’s death to murder, yet he collapsed at home.
“Allow me to pass my deepest and sincere condolences to the people of Kariobangi North who lost their MCA, Joel Munuve. He collapsed at home. I don’t know why you call it murder,” said Sakaja.
