A former Classic FM Radio Presenter has landed a new role with the United Nations, seven years after his exit at the Radio Africa Group. In a statement on November 1, Larry Asego who also worked at Kiss 100 announced that he has assumed the role of Communications Officer at the Office of the Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region.
Asego who ruled the airwaves during his 10-year stint at Radio Africa Group has been working as a Special Advisor to the Ambassador of France to Kenya and Somalia.
“Today I embark on a new journey at the United Nations Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region. Looking forward for to an awesome year ahead,” Asego said in a post on LinkedIn.
The journalist, a fluent French language speaker, assumed the role at the Embassy of France in Kenya and Somalia back in May 2024.
Asego worked as a Press and Communications Counsellor at the same Embassy between September 2017 and April 2024.

He has also worked as a French Language teacher at Alliance Francaise de Nairobi from 2005 to 2016, and as a part time lecturer at Riara University between 2016 and 2017.

Asego is known for his stint as a radio show host at Radio Africa Group where he worked between January 2008 and August 2017.
Larry announced his exit from the media house in August 2017 through the morning program “Maina na King’ang’i where he was stepping in for popular radio presenter Maina Kageni.
“Has it been 10yrs already? Ama nimehesabu vibaya? Let me say thank you very much for the opportunity,” wrote Larry on his Instagram.

The radio presenter started his journey at Kiss 100, a sister station to Classic 105, where he stayed for 5 years before shifting to Classic.

According to the former Radio guru, he was asked to join radio by Daniel Ndumbuki, popularly known as Churchill whom they were acting together.
Asego was hosting an evening show dubbed #LarryNickandFriends before his exit in 2017.
United Nations Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary General for the Great Lakes Region
The media personality now joins the UN Special Envoy’s office which develops and leads the implementation of policy on the cross-border security, political, economic and social issues arising in the Great Lakes region of Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo (D.R.C.).
In addition, the Envoy leads efforts to support the implementation of Peace, Security, and Cooperation Framework Agreement, including the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to stop human suffering and violence in the region, by promoting political, economic and social reconciliation.
