Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, who served under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has landed a new international role.
Nzioka who also served as Head of Kenya’s Presidential Delivery Unit announced on Wednesday, December 11, that he has joined the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) as the Managing Director – Africa Advisory.
The former Chief of Staff expressed his gratitude for the appointment to lead the institute, which he said is committed to supporting political leaders across diverse geographies to execute their mandates effectively.
“It is my honor today to announce that I have joined the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change as Managing Director – Africa Advisory,” said Nzioka.
“I will be privileged to work alongside kindred spirits, a team of like-minded thinkers, doers and trusted advisors who are committed to supporting political leaders across diverse geographies to execute their mandates effectively, whilst leveraging the benefits of technology and the efficient design of their governments for impact and results.”
In a statement on Monday, TBI also expressed its delight to announce that Waita has joined the institute as its new Managing Director for Africa Advisory.

The institute further said that Nzioka arrives with skills and capabilities that embody the best of TBI’s value proposition as advisors to political leaders on strategy, policy and delivery – all enabled by technology.
Prior to the appointment, Nzioka worked with TBI as an independent advisor to support its teams around the world driving policy solutions for leaders.
Nzioka Waita’s career in government
The new TBI Managing Director for Africa Advisory worked as Kenya’s Chief of Staff after he was appointed at the start of former President Uhuru’s second term.
Prior to this appointment, Waita served in the capacity of Deputy Chief of Staff and Deputy Head of the Public Service, deputizing Joseph Kinyua in both capacities. He also served as Secretary, President’s Delivery Unit.

Nzioka is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya of 18 years standing, a Certified Public Secretary and a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
Prior to his experience in Kenyan politics and government, Nzioka spent 14 years at Safaricom PLC, Kenya’s largest telecommunications company, including four years as head of corporate affairs.

His career began in the practice of law, and he has worked at Momentum Africa Partners as a managing partner since October 2023.
Nzioka holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Sheffield and a Masters (LLM) in IT and Communications Law from Queen Mary University of London in the United Kingdom.
Waita resigns as Chief of Staff
On February 9, 2022, former President Kenyatta bade farewell to the then outgoing State House Chief of Staff who was leaving his role to contest for the Machakos gubernatorial seat in the August 2022 general elections.
In a meeting held at State House Nairobi, the retired president accepted Waita’s resignation and thanked him for his exemplary service in the portfolios he held over the 7-year period including oversighting implementation of flagship government projects as Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU).
