Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo is the current chairperson of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Board of Directors.
Mdivo replaced Vivienne Yeda in December 2022 after the latter’s two years at the helm of the public utility.

The KPLC board chairperson is among the 11 candidates shortlisted for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson position.
Among other shortlisted candidates for the IEBC chairperson position are former East Africa Court of Justice (EACJ) judge Charles Ayako Nyachae and former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Atieno Amadi.

Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo profile
Joy Mdivo is the daughter of the famous gospel preacher J.B Masinde.

For more than 22 years, Mdivo has been an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She has gone on to establish herself a successful career as a lawyer.
The KPLC board chair is the proprietor of Masinde Mdivo and Associates, a law firm she started in 2016 that brings together legal consultants, advocates, and paralegals to provide legal services to personal, corporate and commercial clients.
For more than two decades, Mdivo has worked in civil society, agitating for various causes.
She has also served as the executive director of the East Africa Centre for Law and Justice (EACLJ) for more than ten years.
Previously, Joy was the executive director of the Christian Legal Education Aid and Research (CLEAR Kenya), the Legal Aid branch of the Kenya Christian Lawyers Fellowship.

She served in the Judiciary of Kenya for six years starting as a district magistrate, rising through the rank of senior resident magistrate before her resignation from public service.
In addition to her role as KPLC Chairperson, Mdivo currently serves on various boards in the country, including at the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya, Africa International University Council, the Integrated Aid Services (IAS-Kenya) and the Deliverance Church Umoja Council.
Joy is a former council member of the Law Society of Kenya, Nairobi Branch and is a member of East Africa Law Society, the Kenya Christian Professionals Forum and the Kenya Christian Lawyers Fellowship.
Education and appointment to KPLC board
Having completed her secondary education at the Precious Blood Secondary School, Mdivo went on to study law at the University of Nairobi.
She also has a master’s in organizational leadership from the International Leadership University, Nairobi.
Joy joined the Kenya Power board and was appointed as Chairperson on December 16, 2022.
Also, she was a member of President William Ruto‘s election campaign team, where she served in the Dispute Resolution Committee of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party that President Ruto used to clinch power.
