Dr. Eunice Namonywe Emusugut is not your ordinary police officer. She is a Chief Inspector of Police with a PhD in Counselling Psychology, a rare achievement in the National Police Service (NPS).
Currently serving as a Chief Inspector of Police, Dr. Eunice has dedicated over two decades to both law enforcement and mental health.
She works at Kenya Police Headquarters under the Directorate of Chaplaincy, Counselling and Psychosocial Support, helping officers deal with stress, trauma, and emotional challenges linked to their service.
She joined the police force in 2003 and has spent over 20 years combining her law enforcement duties with a deep commitment to mental health.

Dr. Eunice Namonywe’s Academic Journey
Dr. Eunice holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, and an Advanced Diploma in Mental Health Practice from Amref International University.
She completed her PhD at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, making her one of the few officers in the service to hold a doctorate.
Before her current role, she worked at Karen Police Station, the Crime Office in the former North Eastern Province, and at the AIDS Control Unit under the Directorate of Personnel.
The assignments exposed her to the emotional strain officers and communities face and inspired her to use psychology to support those around her.

Her Work in the National Police Service (NPS)
Additionally, Dr. Eunice has played a key role in shaping mental health support within the police service.
She was part of the team that developed the Counselling and Chaplaincy Policy for the NPS and helped create a trauma counselling training manual designed for officers dealing with high-stress environments.
She is also a certified counsellor and an accredited Associate Supervisor with the Kenya Counselling and Psychological Association, allowing her to guide and mentor other mental health professionals.
Outside of police work, Dr. Eunice is a part-time lecturer, training upcoming psychologists and sharing her unique blend of field experience and academic knowledge.
The National Police Service has celebrated Dr. Eunice as a trailblazer and leader, someone who is not only serving her country but also shaping the future of policing.
Her determination, discipline, and heart for others are helping to create a culture where officers are better equipped to support both the public and each other.
