President William Ruto has recognised Dr. Hezron Omondi Omollo, the first medical student at Uzima University, who now holds a senior position at the Ministry of Health.
While awarding a charter to Uzima University at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday, May 8, President Ruto described Dr Omollo’s journey as a powerful testament to the institution’s legacy.
“I am particularly inspired by the story of Dr. Hezron Omondi Omollo, Uzima’s first medical student who now leads the Division of Professional Standards and Human Resource at the Ministry of Health. His success reflects the kind of legacy this university is building and one that we are here to celebrate, sustain, and elevate,” said the President.
As the current Head of the Division of Professional Standards at the Ministry of Health, a role he assumed in April 2023, Omollo is responsible for shaping standards that guide the professional conduct and practice of healthcare workers across the country.

He is also a member of the Board of Directors at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), a role he was appointed to in November 2024.
Earlier, he served as Principal Technical Advisor to the Ministry’s Chief Administrative Secretary from 2020 before it the position was abolished.
Dr. Omollo’s experience spans both public service and clinical care. He has held positions at St. Mary’s Mission Hospital Nairobi as Chief Medical Officer, and at the Kisumu County Referral and Kijabe Mission Hospitals, where he honed his clinical skills in general practice and surgery.
The Ministry of Health Division of Professional Standards and Human Resource Head holds a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery with a specialization in orthopedics and trauma.
He also holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, where he graduated in 2018.

In addition, Dr. Omollo pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) and later advanced his public health credentials with a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Liverpool John Moores University, with a focus on international health.
Alongside his public roles, he is the founder and director of Chestron Company Limited, which he has led since 2010, and is affiliated with Touching Lives Kenya, where he continues to practice medicine.
Ruto appoints him to Presidential taskforce
In July 2024, President Ruto appointed him to the Secretariat of the Presidential Taskforce on Addressing Human Resources for Health since July 2024.
Ruto established the 18-member taskforce in which he named Prof. Khama Rogo as the chair with Judith Guserwa as his Vice Chairperson.
The taskforce also included Ministry of Health Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth, Kenya Medical Practitioners, and Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Deputy Secretary General Dr. Dennis Miskellah.
The taskforce was tasked with, among other things, identifying the legal, policy, administrative and operational constraints impeding performance of the health sector in Kenya with regards to human resources for health.
