Citi Hoppa, a prominent commuter bus service in Nairobi, was founded by the late former Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Thuo.
Thuo is the founder of City Hopper Ltd, a family-owned business that operates under the Citi Hoppa brand.

He served as the Managing Director of Kenya Bus Services before starting his own company.
Thuo was elected as Juja MP in the 2007 general election on the Party of National Unity (PNU) ticket.

He lost the seat in April 2010 after a successful petition regarding irregularities.
Current ICT Cabinet Secretary (CS) William Kabogo captured the seat on a Narc- Kenya ticket.

Thuo died on the night of November 17, 2013.
He collapsed while having drinks with friends at a club in Thika town and was later pronounced dead at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
George Thuo Family Takeover
His widow, Judy Wamaitha Thuo, assumed a leadership role in the company.
Thuo serves as the Managing Director of City Hopper Ltd.
She is overseeing the operations of Citi Hoppa together with her son Ian Gichuhi.
They are managing the late Thuo’s estate on behalf of the deceased’s two daughters, Njeri and Ciru, who are still minors.

City Hopper Company
City Hopper is a limited company that owns the Citi Hoppa and Citi Hoppa Next brand names.
Citi Hoppa started operations on March 23, 2004, with four buses.
It grew exponentially in the next two years with a focus on larger capacity buses and consistent superior service.
Currently, it boasts a fleet of over 250 buses serving commuters within Nairobi City County and its environs.
The new Citi Hoppa Next features modern buses equipped with GPS technology that allows the team to track the vehicles’ movements.
Besides, the buses are comfortable and offer premium services, especially to clients travelling to and from the airport.

Citi Hoppa Leadership and Management
City Hopper has a board of directors, under which are the accounts, engineering, operations, insurance and claims, and training departments.
The Designated Manager heads the operations department while the Chief Accountant oversees finance.
Additionally, the Claims Manager handles insurance and claims, and the Engineering Manager leads the engineering department.
The operations department encompasses operations assistants, the Radio Control section, route marshals, inspectors, route controllers, dispatchers, and the crew.
Accountants and cashiers are under the Chief Accountant. The team leaders and mechanics are in the engineering department.
