The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) 2025 report ranked OLA Energy Kenya Plc as the fourth-largest oil marketing company in Kenya, with 4.42 per cent market share.

OLA Energy was ranked behind Vivo Energy Kenya Limited (21.34%), Rubis Energy Kenya Plc (15.96%), and TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya Plc (14.53%).

The company was previously known as Oil Libya before it rebranded to its current trade name.

The Libyan government owns OLA Energy through the Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAIP), which is a sovereign wealth fund. The company has its headquarters in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Libya Africa Portfolio pursues an investment policy aimed at combining various levels of direct and indirect investment.

This strategy ensures a diversified investment structure in its activities, remaining balanced and flexible in response to changes while achieving positive results in both the short and medium term.

Most of the financial resources have been invested in companies wholly or partially owned by the portfolio.

These companies primarily operate within the African continent, with some presence in European countries, and their efforts span various economic sectors.

Additionally, LAIP uses part of its funds to acquire shares and bonds issued by funds and financial channels that own various assets in global markets, through money management companies that are owned or contracted by them.

Rebranding to OLA Energy

Ola began its distribution and marketing operations in Kenya in December 2006 after signing a contract with ExxonMobil Corporation.

In 2018, Oil Libya Kenya Limited introduced a new brand for its retail locations and petroleum products under the new name OLA Energy.

In a statement, Libya Oil Holdings CEO Mazin Ramadan said the orange-blue colour scheme reflects both the energy and vitality of the business, as well as the high-quality standards of the brand.

“This new brand captures the essence of our company as a modern energy player across our footprint in Kenya and Africa; it characterises our strength and success and expresses the drive and ambition felt throughout our Group in this phase of its evolution,” Ramadan said.

The company serves up to 250,000 customers per day.
