The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that troops opened fire on several individuals approaching Israeli positions in northern Gaza.
IDF, in a statement on October 14, 2025, described the Tuesday incident as a violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
“Earlier today, several suspects were spotted crossing the yellow line and approaching IDF troops in northern Gaza, a clear violation of the agreement. After multiple attempts to distance them, the suspects refused to comply, prompting troops to open fire to remove the threat. Reports of terrorists infiltrating an IDF position are incorrect. The IDF urges Gaza residents to follow instructions and keep their distance from IDF troops.”
The incident follows heightened tensions along the Gaza-Israel border, despite the ongoing ceasefire that has enabled a significant hostage-prisoner exchange and increased humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.
IDF confirms receiving four coffins
On Monday, four coffins carrying the bodies of deceased Israeli hostages were returned to Israel, escorted by IDF and Israel Security Agency (ISA) personnel. The remains were transferred to the National Institute for Forensic Medicine for identification, with military officials accompanying the families of the deceased.
The solemn return came as part of a broader exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel under the United States-brokered ceasefire deal. The deal resulted in the release of nearly 2,000 Palestinians, including 1,700 detained during the war without formal charges and 250 held in Israeli prisons, in return for 20 Israeli captives previously held by Hamas.
Scenes of celebration were witnessed across Israel as the release of captives was confirmed. The first group of seven was handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Monday, followed by a second group of 13.

Among those released were Guy Gilboa-Dalal (24), Eitan Mor (25), and Omri Miran (48), along with several others kidnapped during Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023. Following their return, families were reunited before the captives were transported to hospitals for medical evaluation.
In southern Gaza, footage captured emotional scenes as freed Palestinian prisoners—many of whom claimed to have endured torture—disembarked from buses to cheering crowds near Khan Younis.
For many families, however, the release was bittersweet. While thousands celebrated freedom, 154 Palestinians were reportedly forced into exile as a condition of release.
Trump Declares “New Middle East” in Knesset Address
U.S. President Donald Trump, whose administration was instrumental in mediating the ceasefire and prisoner exchange, addressed the Israeli Knesset earlier on Monday. His speech, briefly interrupted by a member calling for recognition of Palestine, lauded the deal as signaling a “historic dawn of a new Middle East.”

Trump praised Arab and Muslim leaders whom he said had come “together to press Hamas, to set the hostages free”. “We had a lot of help … a lot of people that you wouldn’t suspect, and I want to thank them very much for that,” said Trump, who earlier declared to reporters “the war is over”.
He also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as one of Israel’s “greatest” wartime leaders and, in a detour, urged Israel’s president to pardon the prime minister, who is on trial in three separate corruption cases.
Without addressing Palestinians’ decades-old fight for self-determination and statehood, the US Head of State urged Palestinians to shift focus from resistance to reconstruction, a process he promised to support.
“After tremendous pain and death and hardship,” Trump said, “now is the time to concentrate on building their people up instead of trying to tear Israel down.”
Trump then departed for Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik to co-chair an international summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The event drew global attention, with leaders from Jordan, Turkey, Qatar, and the United Nations participating. Prime Minister Netanyahu, though invited, declined to attend.
