Mobility service provider AA Kenya has launched a nationwide recruitment initiative targeting experienced matatu drivers.
In a statement on November 6, 2025, AA announced that the drive will be conducted through its Driver Assessment and Recruitment Department. The program is being implemented in collaboration with organized matatu Saccos and other corporate partners.
According to AA Kenya, the initiative aims to identify and hire highly skilled, disciplined, and safety-conscious drivers who will play a vital role in enhancing road safety and improving customer service in the public transport sector.
“We are looking for well-trained drivers who have valid documents, are honest, and willing to undergo additional training in vehicle handling and customer management,” the association said.

Best Driver Challenge
Earlier this year, AA Kenya, in partnership with the FIA, unveiled the 2025 edition of the Best Driver Challenge. This year’s challenge, which was the third edition, offered drivers from all demographics a platform to demonstrate their skills, advocate for safer roads, and compete for highly coveted rewards.
Participants vied for top honors in four distinct categories tailored for different age groups and interests: “Best Young Driver” for ages 18 to 26, “The Masters” for those aged 27 to 50, “The Legends” for participants 51 and older, and the exclusive “Ladies-Only Challenge” for women aged 26 and above.

Eligibility was straightforward but rigorous, requiring entrants to be Kenyan citizens or residents holding a valid Class B driving license. They also had to maintain a clean road safety record, with no convictions for serious traffic offenses. Previous winners or finalists from earlier editions were ineligible to compete.
The competition unfolded in multiple stages, starting with an online registration process followed by a theory test on road safety. Regional practical driving challenges took place in key cities: Eldoret on May 10 at the Eldoret Sports Club, Mombasa on May 31 at Mama Ngina Waterfront, Nakuru on June 14 at the Rift Valley Sports Club, and Nairobi on June 28 at the Carnivore Grounds. These culminated in the national finals on July 19 in Nairobi.
The prizes on offer ranged from fully sponsored participation in an international driving championship to trophies, cash prizes, and gift hampers.
Participants also stood to gain once-in-a-lifetime perks, such as all-expense-paid trips to premier Kenyan destinations, defensive driving training courtesy of AA Kenya, and a one-year international driving license.
