Residents of Kuria West sub county in Migori are reeling in sadness and shock after a mentally ill man killed one of the congregants of Maranatha church.
According to Kuria West sub county police commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the woman identified as 68-year-old Pauline Akumu and another congregant were in church for prayers when the mentally ill man walked in accompanied by his mother.

Police say the man, 25-year-old Fred Mutatiro walked out of the church only to reappear with two bricks with which he attacked the deceased and her fellow congregant identified as Samwel Muriga.
A report by Citizen TV Digital says Muriga managed to escape the heavy brick blows leaving behind Pauline who succumbed to the attack.
The mentally ill man has been arrested and is being held at Isebania police station pending psychiatric analysis.
The body of the deceased has been moved to St. Akidiva Mindira Mabera hospital mortuary pending investigations.
