High Court Judge David Majanja is dead. Chief Justice Martha Koome announced the death of Majanja Wednesday evening.
“On behalf of the Judiciary and the Judicial Service Commission, it is with profound sadness that I announce the sudden passing of Hon. Justice David Amilcar Shikomera Majanja, Judge of the High Court of Kenya and Commissioner of the Judicial Service Commission. We are all heartbroken,” said CJ Koome.
She added, “Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Judiciary and JSC fraternity during this time of deep sorrow and sadness.”
According to Koome, Justice Majanja will be remembered as a “towering figure in the development of our transformative post-2010 jurisprudence and a crucial pillar in the institution-building of the JSC and the Judiciary.”
“We stand in solidarity with the family, friends, and the entire Judiciary and JSC community during this very difficult period of mourning.

Profile of David Majanja
The late David Majanja was appointed Judge of the High Court in 2011. Upon his appointment, he served at Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu and Kisii High Courts.
In addition, Majanja served at the Commercial and Tax Divisions and Milimani High Court Civil Division.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
Majanja held a Master of Laws (LLM) degree, International Trade and Investment Law in Africa, University of Pretoria, which he earned in 2005.
He was an alumnus of the University of Nairobi where he earned his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in 1996.
He later proceeded to the Kenya School of Law for a Post Graduate Diploma in Law.
According to his profile at the Judicial Service Commission, JSC, David Majanja was admitted to the Bar in 1998.
At the same time, he practiced Law specializing in Civil and Commercial Law and was also involved in public interest litigation.
Notably, Majanja was an Assisting Counsel for the Commission of Inquiry into the Post Election Violence (Waki Commission).
Other Responsibilities
He was a Commissioner at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and Chair, Administration of Justice Committee at JSC.
Additionally, Justice Majanja was a Member of the Judiciary Rules Committee
Member and later Vice-chairperson Judiciary Working Committee on Election Preparations (JWCEP)
