The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has declared the Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer (CS/CEO) position vacant.
In a notice on July 28, the Commission invited qualified Kenyans to apply for the advertised post.
“A vacancy has arisen in the Commission for the position of Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer (CS/CEO). The Commission is seeking to recruit a qualified and competent individual to fill this position,” the notice read in part.
According to the Commission, the successful candidate will be appointed on a four-year contract, renewable once for another four years subject to satisfactory performance.
How the CEO Position Became Vacant
The vacancy arose following the resignation of former CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan, who left the electoral body in February 2026 after what he described as a mutually agreed structured transition with the commission.
In his farewell message, Marjan said he and the commission had agreed on a transition process in the Office of the Commission Secretary and CEO, thanking staff for the opportunity to serve alongside them.
Following his departure, Moses Ledama Sunkuli was appointed Acting Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer on February 5, 2026, and he currently remains the acting head of the commission.
Marjan’s exit came weeks after former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia publicly called for his resignation, arguing that his extended stay at the commission had begun affecting his performance.
