The Kenya Prisons Service has announced the recruitment of cadet officers, technicians, and artisans. In a job advertisement dated April 7, the authority called on qualified personnel to apply.
“The Kenya Prisons Service wishes to announce to the general public that there are vacancies for Professional Cadet Officers, Technicians, and Artisans available. Prospective candidates wishing to apply MUST satisfy the general conditions and requirements listed below,” reads part of the notice.

According to the job advertisement, the slots available for professional cadet officers include Medical Officers (Assistant Supt. of Prisons), Psychiatrists (Assistant Supt. of Prisons), Pharmacists (Assistant Supt. of Prisons), Dentists (Assistant Supt. of Prisons), Architects (Assistant Supt. of Prisons), Physical Planners (Chief Inspector of Prisons), Civil Engineers (Chief Inspector of Prisons), and Counseling Psychologists/Sociologists (Inspector of Prisons).

For Medical Technicians, the available positions include Registered Clinical Officers, Nursing Officers, Medical Laboratory Technologists, and Pharmaceutical Technologists, all of which hold the rank of Sergeant.

On the other hand, vacancies available in the category of professional/technical/artisan include Public Health Officers, Community Oral Health Officers, Dental Technology Officers, Radiographers, Orthopedic Officers, Occupational Therapy Officers, and Physiotherapy Officers. All positions advertised in this category are of the rank of Sergeant.

In the Artisans category, positions available include Carpenters, Upholsterers, Polishers, Wood Machinists, Painters and Decorators, Welders, Tailors, Hairdressers, Graphic & Product Designers, Leather Tanners and Processors, Biogas Technicians, Masons, Plumbers, Electrical Technicians – Grade I/II, and Solar Technicians, all of whom will be of the rank of Corporal.
Additionally, positions for Interior Designers and Water/Borehole Technicians are available, both of which will hold the rank of Sergeant.
In the Technicians category, positions available include Animal Health Officers, Horticultural Officers, Agricultural Officers, Motor Vehicle Electricians, and Motor Vehicle Body Welders & Fabricators, all of which hold the rank of Corporal.
Requirements for Positions Advertised
Prospective candidates wishing to apply must satisfy the general conditions and requirements given below:
- Must be a Kenyan citizen.
- Have a valid National Identification Card.
- Have no criminal record.
- Be between the ages of 18-30 years for Degree holders.
- Be between the ages of 18-28 years for Diploma and Certificate holders.
- Be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall for men and 5 feet 2 inches tall for women.
- Be physically and medically fit.
- Have good hearing and clear vision.
- Female candidates MUST not be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during training.
All prospective candidates for the advertised posts should apply and fill out the PSC.2 form (REVISED 2007), which can be downloaded from www.publicservice.go.ke.
