Kenyans have reacted to a confession shared online by an engineering graduate claiming to have suffered the bitter pill of unemployment.
Through a post shared on Facebook, the former University of Nairobi student lamented that the unemployment burden has been too much for him.
According to the post that has since been deleted, the graduate whose real name is Clinton Muguai disclosed that he would be dumping his academic certificates.
“Today, I have decided to dump papers. Yeah, academic certificates and the likes,” he said.
Muguai further shared his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate which displays his secondary school final grades.
Excellent performances
According to the certificate, the graduate sat the 2014 paper in which he attained a mean grade of a straight A.
Notably, Muguai’s performance was exceptional as he managed a straight A in all the subjects he sat except for English language.
Additionally, he went on to share his university’s degree certificate which shows his continued exemplary performance in campus.
At the University of Nairobi, Clinton was conferred with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree in 2021.
Furthermore, the certificate shows that the engineer matched his high school’s exemplary performance as he attained a first-class honor.
However, prior to his graduation, the graduate now laments giving up due to his lack of luck to secure an engineering job.

“I tried to pass the exams, tried to apply for internships and tried to apply for jobs,” he laments.
He further adds that almost two years have passed since his graduation from one of the best universities in the country, with no hope of securing a job.
Graduate makes tough decision
According to the post Clinton discloses that he would be dumping his papers and embark on a new career path as he tries to make ends meet.
He added, “I have been forced to follow a different path in life-a path I never thought I could one day follow.”
He noted that he would be embarking on a content creation journey as life has been hard for him since relocating back to his rural home in Nyeri.
“I am going to buy a new camera and microphone with the few coins I still got; a camera that will help me create content for YouTube and other social networks,” he confessed.
Kenyans online expressed mixed reaction to Muguai’s confession with majority asking him not to give up.
Kenyans react
Martin Ruto noted, “He is overqualified and shouldn’t give up. He can apply for master’s and study abroad.”
Additionally, another user noted that Clinton can use his course as a ground for short term jobs as he awaits a white collar one.
“An electrical and electronics person has many related jobs. He can be an electronic gadgets repair as he sends the emails,” said Elvis Odanga.
On the other hand, Richard Muriithi reacted with some words of hope as he noted that everything works differently from person to person.

He noted that in contrast to Clinton’s situation, he secured a job one month from graduating from university with no sort of connection.
However, other users criticized the engineer noting that he needs to use his genius mind to find solutions to overcome challenges.
“Guys with brains excel in almost everything they commit to doing. Brains should not only be used to pass exams but also in conquering life’s challenges,” commented a user.
Additionally, Kim Protus, another user urged Muguai to reduce expectations and try out jobs such as local hood electrician.
The confession also served as a discouraging gesture for other graduates.
One user, who seems to have recently graduated noted, “Seeing this with my second lower in finance and expecting a job. I quit let me go plough too.
