The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has opened applications for an industrial attachment program targeting communications and media students.
In a notice released on September 24, 2024, the council announced its partnership with recognized media houses across the country to provide students with valuable practical work experience before they graduate.
This program, according to the MCK, seeks to enhance the students’ skills and understanding of the media industry, preparing them for successful careers in communications and journalism.
“The Media Council of Kenya in partnership with recognized media houses runs a media industrial attachment that is geared towards providing journalism/media students with practical work experience required for graduation and preparing them for the job market,” read part on the notice.
“We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. We do not discriminate on the basis of disability, race, colour, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, veteran status or other category protected by law.”
MCK Announces Attachment Opportunities
The attachment program will last for three Months (3) running from October-December 2024.
Selected students will be offered a monthly stipend to facilitate them during the entire period.
“The attachment lasts for a period of Three Months (3) October-December 2024. The Council will provide a monthly stipend for the trainees’ upkeep,” MCK said.

Beneficiaries will be placed in recognized media outlets across the country under different areas of specialization including print, broadcast radio/television, technical/production and digital.
Eligibility and Requirements for Application
Students pursuing a degree or diploma in journalism, media studies, communications, digital communication, and corporate communication are all eligible for selection.
Additionally, the applicants should be final-year students from a recognized university or college.
The candidate should also have a recommendation letter from the university or college stating the period when the placement is required.
As per the statement by MCK, applicants must have a valid registration for Industrial attachment unit at college or university.
Other requirements include academic transcripts for the current academic year and a valid student Identification Card
Furthermore, they should possess a valid MCK Student Press Card 2024, and any sample of journalistic work done before.

The subject title should be: “Application for MCK Media Industrial Attachment Programme”.
Applications from interested candidates should be submitted on or before Monday, 30th September 2024.
“The Media Council of Kenya does not solicit payments or recruit through Agents/Agencies,” the council said.
