The National Police Service Commission has declared vacancies in the positions of Deputy Inspector General of Police (both DIG-Kenya Police Service & DIG-Administration Police Service).
In a statement on July 13, the Commission invited applications from qualified candidates.
“The National Police Service Commission invites applications from suitably qualified serving police officers who wish to be considered for the positions of Deputy Inspector General, Kenya Police Service (DIG-KPS).
“The Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police shall be under the direction of the Inspector General and shall command, control and administer the Kenya Police Service,” the statement read in part.

Requirements
According to the Commission, any person interested in this position must be a Kenyan Citizen and have a degree from a university recognized in Kenya or equivalent qualifications.
Additionally, he or she must have a distinguished career in their respective fields and meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
Moreover, the candidate should have served the Police Service for at least fifteen years and has knowledge and experience in matters relating to any of the following disciplines:
- Criminal justice
- Policy development and implementation
- Finance and public administration
- Strategic management
- Security
- Law
- Sociology
- Government.
The applicant, preferably, should be a serving police officer of the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) and above.

How to apply
All qualified applicants must submit a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of relevant academic and professional testimonials, and other necessary supporting documents.
Additionally, they are required to upload scanned copies of these documents with their application.
Applications can be delivered manually by delivering them to the Office of the Commission’s Secretary/CEO at the CBK Pension Towers in Nairobi. Alternatively, the applications can be submitted in PDF format through the official website via digrecruitment@npsc.go.ke.
Similarly, all applications must be clearly labeled as either ‘Application for the position of Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police Service’ or ‘Application for the position of Deputy Inspector General Administration Police Service’.
Finally, all applications should be addressed to the Chairperson, National Police Service Commission. Subsequently, all applicants and shortlisted candidates will be published in print media.
Koome Resigns
The announcement comes after the Inspector General of Police (IG) Japheth Koome resigned following an approval by President William Ruto leading to several changes in the Police Service.
In a statement on Friday, July 12, 2024, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed stated that President Ruto accepted Koome’s resignation while also announcing Douglas Kanja as the new acting National Police Service (NPS) IG.
Douglas Kanja was previously serving as the Deputy IG alongside Noor Gabow of the Administration Police.
“HIS EXCELLENCY Hon. William Samoei Ruto, Ph.D, CGH, President and Commander in Chief of the Defense Forces, has on this 12th day of July 2024, accepted the resignation of Eng. Japheth N. Koome, MGH, as the Inspector General of the National Police Service,” read a statement by Hussein.
