The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) has announced job opportunities for its graduands in the United Kingdom beginning December 2023.
In a statement on Wednesday, November 29, NYS stated that the opportunities were presented under ‘The seasonal Worker Scheme’ a program which provided ready labor for UK citizens.
Additionally, the entity stated that the opportunities were particularly targeting graduands with agriculture qualifications as they would be working in horticultural farms.
“We write to inform our esteemed Alumni of opportunities that exist in the Uk particularly to Graduates with Agriculture qualifications.
“The Scheme dubbed “The Seasonal Worker Scheme (SWS)” provides farmers and growers in the UK with a source of labor to meet their workforce demand for seasonal positions within the horticulture sector,” the statement read in part.
NYS Includes Details of the UK Jobs
At the same time, NYS stated that successful candidates would work in the fruit and vegetable sector abroad for a period of six months.
In addition, the statement noted that the recruitment was for a second cohort noting that the first cohort of 45 people, recruited in June 2023, were already working in the UK.
“The successful recruits will reside and work in the fruit and vegetable sector for a period of Six months tentatively from February 2024,” NYS noted.
On the other hand, the statement indicated that the program was facilitated by the Kenya High Commissioner to the UK through a recruitment farm known as HOPs labor solutions.

“The Scheme was introduced to NYS by the Kenya High Commissioner to the UK. A recruitment firm named HOPs labor solutions is an authorized operator in the UK,
“And has been introduced to National Youth Service to carry out the recruitment of seasonal workers from National Youth Service Graduates with Agriculture qualification,” the statement further reads.
Details of Job Requirements
Apart from being an NYS graduand with agriculture related courses, applicants should be willing to reside and work in the UK for a period of six months and return at the end of the period.
Also, the advertisement detailed that the applicants should be able to finance their passport, visa application and have a sustainability amount to support their living costs before receiving the first payment.
“Passport processing fee, approximately Ksh6,550, Return ticket (direct): (£1100) Ksh192,500, Visa Application Fee (£256) Ksh45,325, Sustainability amount (£150) Ksh30,000 to support your living costs until first pay is received,” detailed the statement.

Other listed qualifications included being highly motivated in practical farming, being medically and physically fit, and being able to show up for interviews at NYS Yatta Field Unit on December 7, 2023.
